What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the continued support of excavation works and utility relocations for the future Science Centre station, traffic staging at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East was reconfigured in mid-February 2017. This new set up will remain in place for up to three (3) months.

Traffic was shifted to the south side of Eglinton Avenue, allowing work to proceed on the north side. Utility relocations at the northwest and southwest corners and road widening continue, and piling on the north side of Eglinton Avenue has begun. Excavation for the off-street bus terminal at the northeast corner will also begin.

Hours of Work

  • The work zone set-up will remain in place for up to three (3) months.
  • Most of the work is expected to be performed between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, however the contractor is permitted to work between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Limited overnight works may also be expected. Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work is subject to permits and all relevant approvals, and may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic and Pedestrian Details

  • A minimum of two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained, where possible. Additional lane reductions during off peak hours may be required.
  • Existing right turn on red restriction from southbound Don Mills to westbound Eglinton remains in place.
  • The east-to-west crosswalk on the north side of the intersection is closed. The remaining three crosswalks at the intersection are open.
  • All existing sidewalk closures and detours remain in effect for this stage. Pedestrian detours are clearly marked with signage directing pedestrians to the alternate routes.

TTC Details

  •  All existing bus stop relocations remain in place for this stage.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
