To progress construction at Laird Station and prepare for upcoming mining works, crews will be drilling from the right of way surface into the completed TBM tunnel to fill portions of the tunnels with concrete.

Hours of Work 

  • Work is expected to occur between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. 
  • Work is expected to begin as early as mid-May 2017 and will take approximately eight (8) weeks to complete.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx and Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.

What to Expect

  • Each hole will take approximately 3 days to complete. Holes will be covered with steel plates until all the holes are ready for concrete. 
  • Heavy truck traffic should be expected during the concrete pouring operations.
  • After the concrete pouring is complete the holes will be filled and restored. 
  • Residents near the work site can expect to hear use of a vacuum track, trucks, drilling, and other construction equipment. 

Traffic and Pedestrian Details 

  • A minimum of one through lane in each direction on Eglinton Avenue will be maintained. 
  • Some dedicated turn lanes will be maintained. There are no turn restrictions related to this work.
  • Work near the intersection will have a Paid Duty Officer (PDO) present. 
  • Work will be completed in stages to reduce impacts; each stage is approximately two weeks.
  • The existing crosswalk closure and sidewalk closure will still be in effect.
  • Access to driveways on the on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East both east and west of Laird will be maintained and supported by traffic personnel. 

Transit Details 

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
