What Work is Taking Place?
As part of construction of the future Kennedy Station, crews continue to upgrade and relocate wet utilities along Eglinton Ave between Ionview Road and Kennedy Road.
Crews continue to work on installing the new storm and sanitary system from Ionview to Kennedy and will complete their work with a final connection to the existing manholes located within the Kennedy and Eglinton intersection.
The work from Ionview to Kennedy is approaching completion and along with the remaining manhole connections the work is expected to take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete. Work is expected to begin as early as Monday, August 20, 2018.
Hours of Work
- Work is expected to begin as early as Monday, August 20, 2018 and take approximately six (6) weeks to complete.
- This work may take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., sevens (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
- Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
- Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
What to Expect
- Lane closures and pedestrian rerouting will be in effect.
- TTC bus stops may be relocated away from work zones.
- For safety, fencing, dust cloth, barriers, and scaffolding may be erected around work zones.
- Noise, dust and lighting from construction activity can be expected.
- Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when traveling near work zones.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
- Lane reductions will be required in each direction to safely conduct all phases of this work.
- A minimum of two lanes of traffic in each direction on Eglinton Avenue East and Kennedy Road will be maintained.
- Temporary pedestrian rerouting around work zones may be necessary to accommodate this work.
- The north-south crosswalk on the west side of the Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection remains closed for the duration of this stage.
- The north-south crosswalk on the east side of the Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection will remain open for the duration of this stage.
- The east-west crosswalks on the south and north sides of the Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection will remain open for the duration of this stage.
- Please watch for signs directing pedestrians to alternate routes.
TTC Impacts
- TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
- In the event of relocation, please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
- Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
