What Work is Happening?

The term “dewatering” means pumping from the ground water at a site where there will be excavation. At Eglinton Avenue West and Avenue Road, dozens of small wells will be drilled around the entire station box where excavation will be taking place. The volume of soil that requires dewatering is significant. 72 wells will be drilled approximately every 10 metres and shallow trenches will be required to lay the pipes, pumps, wells and valves to do the work. The drills installing the wells and the trenches for the piping will encircle the station box.

Work commenced in late May 2017.

Hours of Work/What to Expect
  • Drilling and trenching will occur between 7:00 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Equipment will remain in place after the rig has finished for the day. This approach will expedite the work and ensure it continues to move around the zone efficiently.
  • The entire installation will take approximately five months.
  • Equipment is expected to change position approximately every 3 days.
  • * Timelines are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • Lane reductions will be in place on Eglinton Avenue West in the vicinity of the construction zone.
  • Some on-street parking spaces will be impacted.
  • Any work required in Eglinton Park will be coordinated with appropriate authorities.
