What Work is Taking Place?

As part of continued support of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews have been conducting duct bank installation in preparation for the construction of the Traction Power Substation (TPSS) 11 that will power the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (ECLRT) line. The work has been taking place at the south west corner of Warden Ave and Eglinton Ave East Intersection.

Crews have been excavating, installing, and pouring concrete for duct banks at the south west corner of the Warden intersection since mid-April 2019 and will be continuing this work until mid-July 2019.

Hours of Work

  • Work began in mid-April 2019 and will be ongoing until mid-July 2019.
  • Work will be performed between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, seven (7) days a week.
  • Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavor to provide reasonable notice.

What to Expect

  • Duct bank installation for TPSS 11 at the south west corner of Warden Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East intersection.
  • Lane reductions at the south west corner of Warden Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East intersection.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from construction equipment.
  • Property access will be maintained.
  • Delays can be expected when accessing properties surrounding the work zone.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Lane reductions at the south west corner of Warden Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East intersection
  • A minimum of one (1) lane of traffic south bound and north bound.
  • South bound and north bound left turns will be restricted at the intersection.
  • The east – west crosswalk on the south side of the intersection will be closed during this work.
  • There may be occurrences where a shoulder is narrowed and a traffic barrier is placed to accommodate safe working conditions.
  • Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians to alternate routes.
  • Temporary pedestrian re-routing around work zones may be necessary to accommodate this work.

TTC Impacts

  • The north bound bus stop at Warden Avenue will be relocated further south.
  • The south bound bus stop at Warden Avenue will be relocated further north.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
