What Work is Taking Place?
As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews will be continuing guideway work in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road. Preliminary work began on March 16, 2019.
Starting as early as April 15, 2019 for approximately six (6) weeks, there will be access restrictions for guideway work in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Thermos Road and Sinnott Road. Preparatory work for the reconfiguration will take place as early as Saturday April 13, 2019 starting at 6:00 AM and ending Monday April 15, 2019 at 5:00 AM.
Hours of Work
- Preparatory work for the traffic reconfiguration will commence as early as Saturday April 13, 2019 at 6:00 AM and ending Monday April 15, 2019 at 5:00 AM
- Restrictions between Thermos Road and Sinnott Road are expected to start as early as Monday April 15, 2019 and last for approximately six (6) weeks
- Time: guideway work will be performed between the hours of 7:00 am and 11:00 pm
- Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.
What to Expect
- Cutting and removal of existing asphalt in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Sinnott Road and Thermos Road. The work will be performed within a protected work zone.
- Eglinton Avenue East remains open in both directions at all times.
- Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
- Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
- As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
- A minimum of two lanes of eastbound and westbound through traffic will be maintained during this work.
- There will be an eastbound left turn restriction unto Thermos Road.
- There will be a westbound left turn restriction unto Sinnott Road.
- There will be left turn restriction from Sinnott Road unto Eglinton Avenue East.
- The north-south crosswalks at Sinnott Road will be restricted.
- Emergency services access will be maintained.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained.
TTC Impacts
- TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
- Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
