What Work is Taking Place?

In support of construction of the future Crosstown Light Rail Transit, crews will continue relocation and upgrading of existing overhead and underground utilities between Birchmount Road and Kennedy Road. Work began in June of 2017 and will continue for another six (6) months.

Outages will be required to switch services to the new infrastructure. Outage requirements and impacts will be communicated separately only to those directly impacted.

Hours of Work

  • Work began in June 2017 and will continue for approximately six (6) months.
  • Time: work will be performed between the hours of 7am and 11pm, seven (7) days a week.
  • Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.
  • If overnight work is required, we will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.

What to Expect

  • Beginning at Birchmount Road and moving eastward, crews will be installing new poles, wires, transformers, and switches on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East, followed be trenching of new duct banks across Eglinton Avenue East to connect to existing infrastructure.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Temporary, short duration single lane staging (approximately 30 minutes intervals) along Eglinton Avenue East moving eastward from Birchmount Road.
  • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
  • Pedestrian and property access will be maintained.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stop are done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
