What Work is Taking Place?
As early as Thursday, March 2, 2023, a new traffic configuration will be implemented at Avenue Station to accommodate construction of the new Eglinton Avenue Streetscape and Cycle Track. Traffic on Eglinton Avenue West between Avenue Road and Oriole Parkway will shift to the north side of the road, and construction will move to the south side. Between Oriole Parkway and Lascelles Boulevard, traffic on Eglinton Avenue West will remain on the south side of the street. This configuration is expected to remain in place for approximately three (3) months. Significant traffic and pedestrian changes will be in effect. What to Expect
To implement the new streetscape, removal of the existing sidewalks, roadway, street furniture, and trees is required. Upon completion of the works, new furnishings and greenery will be installed in place of the removed items. Road restoration, sidewalk and bike lane construction, and utility works will take place on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West between Avenue Road and Oriole Parkway. Noise from construction activity, including trucks, breaking of concrete and asphalt, utility work, and use of heavy equipment can be expected. Construction vehicles and trucks will stage within work zones and traffic tapers. Traffic barrels, fencing, and signage will be in place to delineate work zones. Occasionally, use of a hydro-vacuum truck, jackhammer and/or compaction roller will be required. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection.
HOURS OF WORK
- As early as Thursday, March 2, 2023, for approximately three (3) months.
- Construction activities are expected to take place between 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Overnight work may be required to facilitate utility works.
- Work may be rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
TRAFFIC DETAILS
- Traffic on Eglinton Avenue West between Avenue Road and Oriole Parkway will shift to the north side of the road and construction will move to the south.
- Between Oriole Parkway and Lascelles Boulevard, traffic on Eglinton Avenue West will remain on the south side of the street.
- One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
- The westbound left turn from Eglinton Avenue West onto Highbourne Road will be restricted.
- The northbound left turn from Highbourne Road onto Eglinton Avenue West will be restricted.
- The left turns from 1021 Avenue Road (Petro Canada) onto Eglinton Avenue West will be restricted.
- The westbound, eastbound, and northbound left turns at the Eglinton-Avenue intersection will remain restricted.
PEDESTRIAN DETAILS
- Pedestrians will be rerouted west around the work zone at the south-east corner of the Avenue-Eglinton intersection.
- Pedestrians will be rerouted north around the work zone on the north side of Eglinton Avenue West between Avenue and Highbourne Roads.
TRANSIT INFORMATION
- The eastbound bus stop on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West, east of Avenue Road, will be relocated slightly north onto the temporary pedestrian walkway.
- Access to TTC will be maintained at all times.
