What Work is Taking Place?

Since August 2016, crews have been relocating of existing telecommunication (Bell) and hydro lines in the vicinity of Chaplin Crescent and Eglinton Avenue West, in preparation for the next phase of station construction, shoring.  Beginning in January, the existing work zone on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West will be extended west, overtaking the northbound through and right turn lanes on Chaplin Crescent, reducing traffic on Chaplin Crescent to one lane in each direction.  For the safety of pedestrians and motorists, turn prohibitions and pedestrian route changes will be in effect.

Timing 

  • Beginning as early as January 10, 2017 for approximately six (6) weeks.
  • This work will be conducted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Some weekend work may also be required, between the same hours.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion
  •  In the event that overnight is required, Metrolinx and CTS will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout
  • Work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances. 

Chaplin Setup

What to Expect

  • The existing work zone on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West will be extended to include the northbound lanes on Chaplin
  • The work zone on the north side of Eglinton will be expanded to include a south portion of Gilgorm Road
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect increased noise in the area caused by excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment, as well as dust from debris removal
  • For safety purposes, metal fencing will be installed around the work zones

Pedestrian Details

  • The east pedestrian crossing will be closed, and temporary pedestrian crossing will be in place on the west
  • The south crossing will be shifted further south
  • Pedestrian traffic on the west side of Gilgorm Road will be rerouted around the work zone
  • The existing pedestrian rerouting on the south of Eglinton Avenue West, behind the Fire Hall to Chaplin Crescent will remain in effect
  • The south sidewalk on Eglinton Avenue West, west of Chaplin Crescent will be closed from Chaplin Crescent approximately 48 meters to the west
  • Access to the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail from Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained

Traffic Details

  • Traffic on Chaplin Crescent will be reduced to one lane in each direction
  • Eastbound traffic on Eglinton Avenue West will continue to be reduced to two lanes
  • Right and left turns from northbound Chaplin Crescent onto Eglinton Avenue will be prohibited
  • Left turns from southbound Chaplin Crescent onto eastbound Eglinton Avenue will be prohibited
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites

TTC Details

  • To accommodate this work, one TTC bus stop on the southeast corner of Eglinton Avenue West and Chaplin Crescent will be relocated approximately 120 meters to the east.  The stop services the following TTC bus routes:

- # 32 Eglinton West 

- # 332 Eglinton West

  • Please look for signage informing passengers of the new temporary stop locations
