December 15, 2015

Starting in mid-December, a work crew will be seen in the vicinity of the future Don Mills Station conducting survey, locating utilities, and drilling boreholes to obtain additional information of sub-surface utilities and ground conditions.

Why: Metrolinx continues to build the Eglinton Crosstown Line (Line). It is now partnering with Crosstown Transit Solutions (CTS) to design and construct the stations and stops, track work, and signaling system for the Line. Before starting construction on the future Don Mills (Crosstown) Station, CTS will conduct a number of activities in the vicinity to prepare the site for construction.

What work is starting?

  • A crew will conduct utility investigation to locate, mark and inspect underground water utilities along Eglinton Avenue at the northeast corner of Don Mills.
  • The crew will cut bore holes, approximately 100 test holes, in the nearby field, road asphalt, and on the boulevard to confirm the existing data of soil, rocks, and utilities conditions in the area. The small holes will be cut along Eglinton Avenue East from Don Mills Road to Gervais Drive.
  • You will see heavy trucks and equipment in the area as crews move from one test hole to the next.
  • Crews will also be surveying the area. They will begin working in the field and then move to the boulevard and on to the roadway.
  • While work is underway, nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear some noise related to drilling, saw-cutting, hydro-vaccing, and use of heavy equipment.

  • Surveying work begins on December 16, 2015 and the geotechnical work will begin later.
  • Activities will last for a short duration and will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • The work is expected to last for approximately two weeks.
  • Work could be rescheduled to January 2016 due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Our crews will be visible at Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue.

Traffic Details:

  • Occasional and temporary lane closures may be required along the eastbound lane of Eglinton Avenue East; and the northbound lane along Don Mills Road, north of Eglinton Avenue.
  • A paid-duty officer will be in place to provide traffic control assistance at intersections, as required.

  • Access to and from properties will be maintained.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near construction areas.
