What Work is Taking Place?

Crews will conduct the first of a series civil works involving pavement reconstruction works at intersections along Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road in support of construction of the future surface stops.

Weekend intersection closures will be required at the intersections listed below. The reconstruction work will be performed on two (2) consecutive weekends at each intersection. Due to the location of work zone, the work can only be carried out safely while the following intersections along Eglinton Avenue East are closed:

  • Eglinton Square
  • Thermos Road/Sinnott Road
  • Birchmount Road

Timing

  • There will be a series of weekend intersection closures throughout the entire year. Below is the first of these upcoming planned weekend intersection closures at Eglinton Square:
    • November 17 and 18
    • November 24 and 25 
  • Additional weekend intersection closures are anticipated throughout 2018. More details to follow.

Hours of Work

  • Construction activities will begin on each Friday before these weekends, and will continue during regular working hours (7am-11pm) and overnight (11pm-7am) until the intersection re-opens the following Monday morning.

What to Expect

  • The reconstruction will be completed within two consecutive weekends. 
  • Involves a partial closure of the intersection with full restrictions to north-south traffic. 
  • East- west through traffic will be maintained. 
  • East and westbound left and right turns will be restricted at the intersection. 

Pedestrian Impacts

November 17 – 18 Weekend

  • One lane of traffic in each direction. Traffic will be shifted south along Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Pharmacy Avenue.
  • The north sidewalk on Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Pharmacy Avenue will be closed.
  • Left turns restriction from west bound Eglinton Avenue East to south bound Eglinton Square.
  • Eglinton Square opened between Victoria Park Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Golden Mile driveway access will be restricted during this work.
  • The north-south crosswalk at Eglinton Avenue East and Eglinton Square intersection will be closed. Pedestrians will be redirected to the crosswalks at Victoria Park Avenue or Pharmacy Avenue.

November 24 – 25 Weekend

  • One lane of traffic in each direction. Traffic will be shifted north along Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Pharmacy Avenue.
  • The south sidewalk on Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Pharmacy Avenue will be closed.
  • No traffic will be permitted from Eglinton Avenue East to Eglinton Square.
  • Access to Eglinton Square is restricted between Victoria Park Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East except access to the mall driveway.
  • The north-south crosswalk at Eglinton Avenue East and Eglinton Square intersection will be closed. Pedestrians will be redirected to the crosswalks at Victoria Park Avenue or Pharmacy Avenue.
  • Driveways will remain open during this work.

TTC Impacts

  • The westbound bus stop at Golden Mile driveway will be closed.
  • The eastbound bus stops on the east will be relocated to bus stops at the west of the intersection.
  • Eastbound and westbound bus stops relocated to west at Victoria Park Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East.
  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
