What Work is Taking Place?

As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews will be upgrading and relocating wet utilities in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road starting as early as Monday, August 20th, 2018.

To reduce the impact to the community and commuters this work will be performed overnight and will take approximately four (4) weeks to complete. This work supports the upgrade of water infrastructure across Eglinton Avenue East for the future Crosstown surface stops.

Hours of Work

  • Beginning as early as August 20, 2018 for approximately four (4) weeks 
  • Work will be performed overnight between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., seven (7) days a week, Monday to Sunday.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.

What to Expect

  • New pipes will be installed in the center of Eglinton Avenue West between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road along Eglinton Avenue East. The will be performed within a protected work zone.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • Property access may be maintained.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • One lane of eastbound and west bound through traffic will be maintained during this work.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of Pharmacy Avenue will be impacted during this work.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of Hakimi Avenue will be impacted during this work.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones may be required. Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians to alternate routes.
  • Paid-Duty Police Officers may be present during this work.

TTC Impacts

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
