Wynford Drive Bridge Rehabilitation - Upcoming Work and Construction Staging: June 2018

What Work is Taking Place?

The Wynford Drive Bridge will be rehabilitated as part of the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Bridge deck replacement and associated works will be performed to accommodate utility upgrades and the new LRT tracks and guideway in the center of Eglinton Avenue East. 

The bridge rehabilitation process will include the installation of work platforms beneath the bridge. Platform installation will be performed in two (2) stages and take approximately two (2) weeks to complete. Work is scheduled to begin as soon as June 11, 2018.

Sidewalk closures on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East will be in effect as early as June 18, 2018 to support the bridge widening work to follow.

Hours of Work

• Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
• The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
• Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
• Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

• Platform installation will take place in two stages, beginning on the west side of Wynford Drive, followed by the east side.
• Each stage takes approximately one (1) week to complete.
• Traffic on Wynford Drive will be shifted to provide a secure and protected work zone.
• Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
• A minimum of one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
• Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
• Property access will be maintained.
• As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Pedestrian Information

• Sidewalk closures on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East are anticipated to begin as early as Monday, June 18, 2018. More details on closures to follow.
• Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Flagmen will be present during this work to assist the public.
• The sidewalk adjacent to the work zone will be closed for the duration of the work to protect the safety of pedestrians:
  • While work is underway on the west side of Wynford Drive, the west sidewalk will be closed;
  • While work is underway on the east side of Wynford Drive, the east sidewalk will be closed.
  • Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes and flagmen will be present to assist.

Transit Information

TTC bus stops will not be directly affected by the sidewalk closures and will remain in current locations.

Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
