Update: Shoring and Excavation Work Continues for Laird Station

Since June 2016, shoring and excavation work has been underway within the main and secondary entrance sites for the future Laird Station. In Spring 2017, the long-term sidewalk closure will begin on the west side of Laird Drive from Eglinton Avenue East to Parklea Drive along with the closure of the west/east crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East. The long-term road occupancy and sidewalk closure on Eglinton Avenue East between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive will begin in Summer 2017 and remain for the duration of the work into 2020. Shoring at Fairbank Station Service Building

What Work is Taking Place?

Beginning in mid-March 2017, crews will start support of excavation work, also known as shoring, at the future Fairbank Station Service Building.  The Service Building is located on the southwest corner of Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Street, and will be used to host mechanical and electrical equipment for the station.   Read more »

UPDATE: Construction Staging in Eglinton Park

What Work is Taking Place?

In late 2016, a portion of the western frontage of Eglinton Park was fenced off to accommodate construction staging. Through consultations with the public and local elected officials, a reduced portion of the Eglinton Park was approved for temporary use during the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown.   Read more »

UPDATE: Shoring and Excavation Work for Avenue Station

Update

Based on consultations with local residents and businesses as well as elected officials, the following amended staging plan has been prepared and will be implemented as soon as March 13, 2017.

What changed?

The pedestrian walkway in front of the Secondary Entrance construction area will be closed. There will be no continuous travel on the north side of Eglinton Ave between Lascelles Blvd  and Avenue Road. To access businesses on the east side of the secondary entrance, please use the crossing at Oriole Parkway.  Read more »

Thank-you and farewell to the Crosstown’s TBMs!

The Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) project marks another significant milestone the week of March 13th, 2017. Metrolinx will start the process of extracting the tunnel boring machines (TBM) from the completed east tunnels, and say farewell to our faithful helpers, TBM Don and TBM Humber. 

What is happening?

The TBMs will be disassembled and lifted from extraction shaft just east of Yonge & Eglinton in four over-sized sections over four days. TBM Don, the machine that bored the north tunnel, will be removed first. Read more »
