Inspiration in Construction

The Artbarn School is Toronto’s foremost not-for-profit art school, and students and staff are finding inspiration in unlikely places near its Eglinton home, encouraging the community not to feel fenced in by construction.

The Artbarn is located at 250 Eglinton Avenue West, just east of our Avenue Station Secondary Entrance site. The long-term set up at Avenue Station requires fencing along the block to protect pedestrians from ongoing construction activities – unfortunately this means the fence is in front of the Artbarn School.

The Artbarn is making the best of the situation through its #MakeArtTO social media and community campaign.

“We are excited about the upcoming changes to public transit in our neighbourhood, however, we feel cut off from the community. We wanted to get our message out and have some fun with it,” says Linda, Executive Director and founder of the not-for-profit community art school.

The #MakeArtTO campaign kicked off on Friday, October 13 with Artbarn volunteers “yarn bombing” the fencing along the pedestrian walkway.

Their message is a simple one: "Make Art!" It’s good for you, and like all things that are good for you, it could easily slide down your priority list. But don’t just take our word for it, listen to Pablo Picasso: “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
